A few years ago, I began kicking around the idea of opening a small burger joint. I wasn’t sure about all the details, but I had a few necessities at the top of my list. I knew I wanted fresh burgers with unique toppings, breakfast was an absolute must, and I wanted a nice selection of craft beer. (I do love me some beer!)

I started spitballing ideas with my son, wife, sister, mom, and father-in-law, and with their support, I decided to give it a go. So we had a rough concept for the menu and drinks, but what about the design, the feel of the place? This was a passion project from the start, so I wanted to incorporate the things I truly love: music, art and baseball. More specifically- heavy music, local art, and my team, the Houston Astros.

Naming the place was both the easiest and the hardest part. We’d just recently lost our beloved pet boxer pup, a part of our family for 16 years. In honor of him and to help keep his memory alive, we decided to name the place after him.

Combining all the things I love, and with the help of the people I love the most, Oscar’s Breakfast, Burgers and Brews was born.

We put together a menu that included our signature takes on some classic burger toppings and a few combos with some completely new spins. I named them all after the bands, musicians and the people I love. We even named one after the Astros. We threw some orange paint on the walls, put up some blue lights, and I hung up a bunch of rock posters from my own collection (and a certain infamous poster in the men’s room). We opened the doors on February 4, 2017 and hoped like hell that you all would love it.

It didn’t take long to realize that you did, and that we were going to need a bigger space. I’m so proud of our staff for accomplishing what we did in that original tiny space. And more than any success we had as a business, I was happy that our customers felt at home there. Sure, that kitchen was tiny and we had everything crammed into what was basically a 7-foot wide hallway. Sometimes you had to wait a bit to get a seat, or to get your food. But you kept coming back. And that meant and still means the world to me.

It gave us the confidence to expand and in June, 2019 we opened our new expanded space. 10 weeks of renovation and we were able to transplant the look and feel of the original space to the new restaurant. Finally- a full kitchen, plenty of seating, a longer bar, and 20 more beers on tap. Breakfast is now served all day and we’ve got new additions to the menu being introduced regularly.

Oscar’s is truly a labor of love, and I hope you feel that while you’re here. From the handcrafted burgers and house-made sauces, to the choices we make in the beers on tap and the cans and bottles stocked in the fridge, to the art and posters on the wall and the music playing in the background. I am continually in awe of the support we receive from our customers, so whether this is your first time joining us or you’re part of the family, I want to thank you. This place, my dream, couldn’t happen without you.
